First Christian Church is a proud supporter of Todd & Tonja Hancock, our missionaries to Mexico, through CMF International. Tonja and Todd met at Lincoln Christian College. Their first date was on March 23,1990. Todd graduated from LCC with a bachelor degree in World Mission and Church Growth in 1992. Tonja graduated with a bachelor degree in World Mission in 1993. They were married on December 12,1992 in Morris, IL, Tonja's hometown. They served in Youth Ministry at Antioch Church of Christ in Rossville, Il from 1993-94 and at Lake Ridge Christian Church in Paris, IL from 1994-2000. Their son Mitchell was born on May 26, 1996. And Their daughter Mallory was born on October 16, 1998. In September of 2000 they moved to Indianapolis to become Living Link Missionaries with Valley Mills Christian Church and served with them until they left for Mexico in August 2001.
Since 2002, Todd & Tonja, along with their children, Mitchell and Mallory, have served on CMF's church-planting team in Mexico City. They have worked primarily with Iglesia Christiana del Norte (ICN -- Northside Christian Church) in leadership development with youth and young adults.
The Hancocks have arrived for their second term in Mexico City.
Todd & Tonya: We have begun working alongside La Comunidad Cristiana El Camino (The El Camino Christian Community). El Camino is a church located in the south of Mexico City that was begun about 5 years ago by Steve and Debbie Palich and 4 other families from the Southside Christian Church of Mexico City. But now all but one of the founding families has either moved away, or even gone on to begin full-time christian ministry elsewhere.
The church is averaging about 40-50 for Sunday morning worship, many of which are young in their faith. Tonja and Todd have begun working alongside the minister, Arturo Castillo, and his wife Marti. We have identified 6 areas in which we are going to focus our ministry. These areas include leadership development, youth/young adult ministry, children's ministry, men's ministry, stewardship/giving, and locating a larger and eventually permanent building/location.
Please pray for El Camino as we grow in the Lord and reach out to southern Mexico City.
The Hancocks are commited not only to church planting, but helping to inspire a church-planting movement among the middle class of Mexico City.
